Round Table Windhoek 34, through its constant efforts to serve our community, hosted a soup kitchen at the Child Life Change Centre, located at Ward 2336, Ongava Street, Okuryangava location, Katutura. The event took place on Saturday, 28 April 2018.
The Child Life Change Centre is a welfare organisation established in 2007. The centre is run by Frieda Nambuli, who herself is an orphan abandoned at the age of only 4 months. Frieda has dedicated her life to loving, caring and looking after child abandoned by their parents, guiding and nurturing the little ones to become the leaders and future professionals of our country. The centre is registered as a Public Welfare Organisation, with the Ministry of Health and Social Services.
The centre offers after care to 65 (Sixty-Five) children, of which 35 (Thirty-Five) reside on a permanent basis i.e. overnight accommodation. Without continuous support, the centre often has trouble in feeding the children on a daily basis. As a result, the children find it difficult to concentrate in school and to function normally.
Greeted by energetic and excited children, the official program of the day events started. Speeches by the Namibian Area Chairman, Johan Steenkamp and the main sponsor of the day, Mr. Casper Mare of City Lodge Hotels, highlighted the role both Roundtable and Corporate Companies, play in serving and assisting our local communities. The official program and handovers were concluded by a devotion of thanks from Ms. Frieda Nambuli of the centre, and convenor of the Project Robert Reid from Roundtable Windhoek 34.
Delicious soup and rolls sponsored by City Lodge Hotels and Puma Service Station Pioners park, made sure that the children of the centre had a warm meal for the day. Children from Huis Mearua assisted on the day with the serving of the soup, and special thanks to Louis Blomfrom Huis Mearua.
The various items sponsored for the day include:
Blankets –Roundtable Winter knights funds
Soup and continuous donation items towards the centre –City lodge Hotels
Rolls –Puma Service Station Pioners park
Foodstuffs and Clothes –Pupkewitz GWM staff
Security Services –WML Security

Without our local sponsors, our efforts to serve our community will not be possible. Roundtable Windhoek 34 would like to express our sincerest Thank you all our sponsors who made this event possible.
The children from the centre continued to entertain us all by both dance and singing routines. Everyone involved on the day joined the children with their performances, which drew a close to the morning’s soup kitchen and handover proceedings.
Following the Soup Kitchen, a Social Potjie and membership drive was at the clubhouse. Guests of Roundtable Windhoek 34, who attended the Soup Kitchen, were invited to have a meal and discuss what Roundtable is, and how you and an individual can get involved. A special thanks to Loubser and Cathy for making a delicious skenkelpotjie.
Overall, this project once again brought all Tablers closer to the community, placing emphasis on the difference and change we make to the lives of the many less fortunate within our community.
I personally thank each and every one who attended and aided on the day.
