This report highlights the incredible impact of a single 40-foot container that changed the lives of so many people. This project has been in the works for nearly a year, so let’s start at the beginning.

Our ever charismatic tabler, Dirkie Baard, happened to meet someone in the medical furniture business – Haelvoet Medical Furniture Creators. During their conversation, Dirkie proudly shared his involvement with Round Table. Haelvoet revealed that they had demo-model medical furniture available for donation if Round Table was interested. These items included essential equipment such as hydraulic and electric hospital beds, bedside tables, wheelchairs, and more.

Recognizing the potential we immediately jumped at the opportunity and so began the efforts to transport the container from Europe to Namibia. This process required detailed planning, negotiations, countless hours of coordination and problem solving but with help from the community we made it happen.
Once the container arrived, the next critical step was distribution. After identifying the local institutions that would benefit most from the donated equipment, we collaborated with them to ensure the supplies were allocated according to their specific needs. A total of 1 Interlink flatbed truck, 4 pickup trucks with trailers, and 24 people were needed for the distribution.
The beneficiary was as follows:

•Dementia Care Centre, Henties Bay
•Alzheimer Dementia Namibia, Swakopmund
•Spescare, Swakopmund
•Huis Palms Old Age Home, Walvis Bay

The project had an estimated value of N$1,062,350, calculated using a generous 50% depreciation rate on the original assessed value. Given that the equipment was in near new condition, this estimate remains highly conservative. Furthermore, a total of around 200 manhours were spent on facilitating and distributing during the project. Seeing firsthand the immense impact this equipment can have on people’s lives is beyond words and something Swakopmund Round Table is extremely proud of.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all who contributed to the success of this project. Without the below mentioned the project would not have been a success:
